Perhaps the German forums covered this but the simpler alternative to rebuilding the crossover circuit could be to substitute better parts like replacing the resistors with audiophile grade ones and piggy backing 0.1 uf audiophile grade tin foil capacitors along side the existing ones which doesn't cost as much or all-together replacing the caps. the resistors are just less than 1 dollar type sand cast resistors vs the much better ones. Having said that the original Ls50 crossover is nothing flash as always in even most moderate quality speakers use less than absolute quality parts, e.g. So would these crossover mods take away the original character of the Ls50 that has made it famous. So in came the do-good flatliners and to some extent changed the famous Stewart Tyler Proac sound. For example, if you look at the old discussions on the Proac Response 2.5 speaker response (and DIY clone versions) and actual listening the designer put in a bit of "positive" boom, tiz & depressed midrange to make them very enjoyable while sacrificing ultimate accuracy and more linear frequency response. Speaker crossovers and frequency response may often be designed with a less than flat response on purpose to sell in the showroom to capture buyers. I havn't looked at the German forum discussion in google translation but it would be good to know what kind of room environment and measurements they are done in and to who's sound preferences. Does the front panel come off easily, is it attached by double sided tape or something? ![]()
