![]() We had no idea how intense this would be.WOW. Atop Monteverde we immediately go to the Sky Trek park and Alex registers us for the ziplining. The last hour of the drive is pretty intense on the worst "road" I have ever traveled consisting mostly of 4-10" stones. ![]() Alex is constantly giving us insight into his country (and him) along the way.explaining sugar cane farming including the importance of Nicaraguan workers, stopping to view some howler monkeys in the trees, etc. After this stop, we headed to Monteverde. We saw a few animals (including a rare for this area white faced monkey and a large troop of Coati), walked to the top of the waterfall for the full view, then hiked back to the van.this "extra" was typical of the added value that Alex and Flamingo Adventures can provide to a small group vs. The end of the trail opened to a fantastic waterfall, locally called Cortez Waterfall (NOT named for the Spanish explorer). As we walked, Alex points out various sights like a parakeet dining at a termite nest. About an hour into the drive, Alex stopped at a large market for bathroom break, coffee and pastries (good clean facilities, very good coffee!) Alex is an assertive driver who got us there as quickly as anyone could (in general, Costa Rican drivers are much more assertive than US drivers.to put it mildly.) We always felt safe and secure in the large air conditioned tour van with large windows for viewing the countryside. It is a long drive to Monteverde via the less than ideal Costa Rica road system. Alex was immediately accessible, friendly and informative. At the end of this detail, I will provide a summary and overall reasoning for the rating: 1) Tour 1 - Monteverde Cloud Forest: Our tour guide Alex picked us up exactly on time at 6am. I will detail each below.all four family members participated in all three tours. Our main goal was to see the nature sights of Costa Rica and try to take in a little of the "real" Costa Rica. ![]() All responded with interesting and competitively priced information, but Greg at Flamingo Adventures seemed most willing to tailor tours to our interests, so we booked all tours with them. Just prior to leaving I contacted several tour companies in the Playa Flamingo beach area. My wife and I (early 50's) and two daughters (18 and 23 years old) went to Costa Rica during the high, dry Holiday season (Dec. ![]()
